Dr. Andrea Grunert

Biographical note

Andrea Grunert is an independent scholar (Ph.D. University of Paris X-Nanterre) and teaches film and media studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Bochum (Germany). She is a postdoctoral searcher and correspondant member of the Centre Pierre Francastel (Centre for interdisciplinary research on contemporary arts) at the University of Paris X – Nanterre where she has presented her doctoral’s thesis on the films of Clint Eastwood in 1993.

Topics of her research are contemporary American, British, Irish and Polish film. She is actually pursuing her research on Alan Clarke and on Irish film and films related to Ireland in a field of interdisciplinary studies.

She contributed to books on Robert Altman, Francesco Rosi and Michel Deville which have been published in France by Minard Lettres Modernes. She has written articles for Cinéma Rites et Mythes Contemporains edited by the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in Paris and Studies in the Western (University of Münster, Germany) as well as for film-magazines in Germany (Filmfaust, film-dienst et Filmforum) and Poland (Kino). She is also an editor of the Paris-based online-magazine www.criticalsecret.com interested in socio-cultural themes.
