Film - Analysis - Publishing

Film in Ireland? What`s that? Which are its attributes? One has to face such questions when working about the film production on the divided island located on the fare end of Europe. Irish films are quite often supported by international money.
This situation implies the necessity to take into consideration foreign films, mostly British and American productions, dealing with Irish subjects or using Irish locations. Therefore, my aim is to investigate the various visions of Ireland presented by Irish filmmakers and actors working in Ireland and abroad and by foreign filmmakers working in Ireland or with Irish-related subjects in order to reveal similarities and to discover differences.

How does the contemporary Irish cinema deal with stereotypical views of Ireland and the Irish? How does it approach the central dichotomy of tradition and modernity? Which are the themes and aesthetic forms that are the marks of its originality?
